Sometimes, beating a child over the head with another child’s bike doesn’t seem like such a bad idea.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m against child abuse to a certain extent… basically meaning, I agree with spanking 100% but many seem to consider that child abuse these days.
And, that would be a topic for a whole other post.
Anyhow, my oldest son has some little “friends” in the neighborhood. These little “friends” like to borrow my Jalen’s riding toys (thanks to Grammy, we have thousands of them – bikes, scooters, you name it, we have it). They also like to talk him into doing things he knows he’s not supposed to do – such as ride his bike with them down to the other end of the neighborhood where the dumpsters are located or ride down the street after dark.
First of all, my son is 6, and I don’t know how other parents feel about their 6 and 7 year olds riding that far down a street where you know no one after dark, but I don’t agree with it.
Second of all, a registered sex offender lives right across the street from me. How do I know if the people on the other end are murderers or not? Lucky for us, they at least make the sex offenders register online – to my knowledge, I don’t think murderers or kidnappers have to do that.
Third, I guarantee you if I snatched these kids’ parents up and pointed out the sex offender, these kids probably wouldn’t be allowed to play outside again. Of course, the parents are obviously unaware of the potential dangers in this world anyway so they’d probably care less about the sex offender issue.
Oh, did I mention the interstate is right around the corner from my house? That’s right, just a 1 minute – at most – drive away. I don’t think these other parents realize it, but I realize that if my son was snatched up down by the dumpsters on the other end of the neighborhood, I’d never see him again!
These neighborhood kids are really getting under my skin.
Am I just being too paranoid? Do you think a 6 and 7 year old has any business riding their bikes all around a neighborhood where you don’t really know anyone?
