Take chances, fall in love, enjoy life.

Life is short.
Take chances.
Love with everything you've got.
Be vulnerable.
Fall in love.
Get your heart broken,
Then fall in love again.
Make those mistakes and take something new from each one.
Cherish each moment.
They're all numbered, and you can't have any of them when you're gone.
You can't take anything or anyone with you.
Enjoy everything and everyone you have.
Make mistakes, learn something new.
Fall down, but get up and try again.
Let your guard down some.
And your hair.
Wear your heart on your sleeve, but shield it with your faith.
Let people know what you think, and feel, but do so with love.
You may not be able to tell them tomorrow.
Feel love, anger, sadness, but feel something, anything.
Feel pain, and know that it won't last forever.
Forgive everyone - they're just like you - only doing the best they can with what they've got.
If you want to do it, make a plan and get it done, whatever it may be.
Unless you want to kill someone - don't do that.
Care for yourself in the healthiest and best ways you know how.
Don't sweat the small stuff - the small stuff will always be there, you won't.

And above all else, wear sunscreen. ;)

Interruption of Destiny - A Tough Decision to Make

"And now for something completely different." ~ Monty Python

It was an interruption of destiny...

A tough decision to make...

A choice between keeping hold of him or to suffer for some time to let go.

It's the question of whether or not someone who is co-dependent should remain in a relationship.

I'm caught every time between sweet lines of poetry and sappy love songs.

"Roses are red, violets are blue..."

And yet...

The thought lingers...

The feelings remain...

I know he is part of my destiny, in some form or fashion.

I know I need to be making decisions for myself.

I need to exercise my right to make my own choices.

But, it feels as if I'm unable to make this particular decision.

It feels as if something else is controlling me.

Love?

My heart?

My desire to be loved?

Or could it be my rationality, whatever little bit there may be left?

No. Love isn't rational. Your heart isn't rational. Emotions aren't rational.

Or are they?

Among all the widgets and apps that exist, I have yet to find one to make a rational decision for me.

I know every rose has it's thorn.

Could it be that I just need to learn how to hold it to avoid being pricked?

I've searched and searched for someone else to provide me an answer - tell me what to do.

And with all the unanswered questions and strong emotions, the only conclusion I've come to is...

Just for today....

I have "admitted I am powerless over my emotions - my life has become unmanageable."

"It Was Such a Special Night"

The two were really hitting it off well with each other. Of course, they had their ups and downs just as anyone in a relationship would.

They continued their relationship - talking on the phone almost nightly, meeting up at the skating rink every weekend at least once if not twice, and passing notes back and forth through Kenny.

Brandy kept every note she got from him in a little lock box under her bed. She kept little tokens of their time together like fair tickets, pictures, and even cds she went out and bought just because the music on them reminded her of him.

They even had their own song. She remembered their telephone conversation for years.

"Hey, we need a song," he had told her. She had snuck outside to talk with him privately in her mom's car in the front yard. Her mother could not know about the two of them being together. Mixing races was a topic she wanted to avoid altogether with her parents.

"We do?"

"Yes," was all he responded as he began to play a song in the background for her to hear.

She fell in love with it immidiately... and with him even more.

They had their first kiss at the skating rink shortly before that moment. It was akward. Her with her braces and him with his perfection. As akward as it was, it sent her heart fluttering in a million different directions. No, the simple sight of him sent her heart fluttering in a million different directions. His touch did twice as much. His lips pressed against hers stopped her breathing.

It wasn't long before a new skating rink opened up. This one was actually 20 minutes closer to her home which made it even closer to his. With the new skating rink came new memories she could never forget even if she tried.

One Friday night, her and Jamie made their ritual trip to the rink. This time, it was to the new one. She and Joey had a small conflict upon the girls' arrival. Brandy saw Joey eyeing a tall, skinny blonde. At that young age in her life, just him looking at another girl sent a wave of heat flowing through her veins.

She refused to confront him about it, thinking that he would find it silly of her to be jealous over something so small. She refused to confront him even when he came up to her at the first couple's skate of the night and told her he was going to skate with this tall, skinny blonde because he 'felt bad for her.' Brandy was left sitting on the sidelines during that first song. Rather, she was left standing on the sidelines, in utter rage, debating on whether or not she should chase down her boyfriend and this new floozy only to accidently let her skate float right in front of the blonde's when she least expected it. It took all she had in her, including what felt like a tear or two coming on, to keep from doing just that.

The song finally came to an end after what seemed like an eternity of her watching her boyfriend prance around the rink with another girl. She was trying to concentrate on the conversation Jamie was attempting to have with her while trying to find her boyfriend at the same time.

Suddenly....

She hears...

"This next song goes out to Brandy" came belting from the DJ booth.

She didn't recognize the music at all when it first came on. It was a slow song, and the sound of it nearly made her fall to her knees.

"I fell in love with you, twas like a dream come true, and my love for you will never end, oh no..." as he came skating up to where she stood, hand held out, belting out each word in the lyrics as if he had written the song.

There went that tear she attempted at holding back earlier. She grabbed his hand, and they took off around the rink, feeling as if they were the only two on the floor.

She never knew how much she could love someone until that moment. And for years, she thought of him and only him every time she heard that song.

WHAT ONCE WAS AND SHALL FOREVER REMAIN

sunshine.jpg sun flower image by sailorette857

Spots of sunshine glimmer through the darkness, signifying a glimpse of hope along the way.

It’s your face I see, floating among the small circles of light.

Memories from a time we once shared become most prominent in the midst of these trying times.

My confidante, my friend, my pal – you were my soul mate from a time once known but no longer experienced.

Now, I reminisce; I daydream; I ruminate over our silly childish ways – the countless number of hours we spent with not a care in the world – we were free.

Two souls merged into one – inseparable – both very different yet completely compatible in the same instance.

I look back; I mentally follow each of our memorable footsteps until each one slowly leads to our separation and departure.

What occurred is truly only known by He who created us, introduced us, brought us close, and drew us apart, yet I stand firm in my belief that I could have made things different.

I had the power to keep us together.

Continuing memories was the power I held a firm grip on until one day, that grip began to loosen.

I could’ve stood up for you.

We could still be riding, bareback, through the woods; we could still be soaking up sun by the dam; and furthermore, we could still be building on a friendship that could’ve withstood a lifetime of hardships.

We could still be – soul mates – inseparable, the sunshine in the other’s darkest day, the light at the end of the tunnel; we could still be together, maybe not as before, but close enough to count.

But, even though friendships fade and soul mates divide from two into one, the memories we made shall forever remain – etched into the safest corners of my being – to look upon as needed.

You still bring a smile to my face; you place a song in my heart; you give me the will to look forward to another day and hope for the excitement it may bring.

Memories of what once was – memories which wouldn’t have been created without your presence – are the types of memories that lead me to continue believing soul mates are a reality and a true bond with another individual can exist.

If our separation is a necessity, continue to exist; exist, if not for your children, exist simply for knowing that somewhere, someone is thinking of you.

I miss you, and throughout all that we’ve been through on our same and different paths, I love you. God bless you.
