Officially Together

.

Brandy was anxious to get to the phone when she arrived home that night. Before leaving the rink, she made sure Joey knew that it would take her about 45 minutes to get home, but he could call soon thereafter. So, as soon as her and her mother pulled up in the driveway, she shot off into the house and plopped down at the computer in her mother's bedroom with the phone right next to her.

She only waited a few moments when the phone started to ring. "Hello," she answered.

"Is Brandy home?"

"It's me. Is this Joey," she asked.

"Yes." His voice was almost even better over the phone. "So, what's up?"

"Just sitting here. Did you just get home?"

"No, I've been home waiting for a good time to call you," was his response. Turns out he didn't live too far from the skating rink.

They talked forever. She found out he practically lives at the skating rink as well. He usually went on Saturday nights, though. They tried to decide if he should switch to Friday nights at the rink or if she should switch to Saturdays so they could see each other.

It was after midnight when her mother walked in the room, noticing almost immediately that she was on the phone with a boy. The giggling never failed to give it away. "Think it's time for you to get off the phone and let me go to bed," her mom insisted.

"Aw mom, just a few minutes?" Then Joey interrupts explaining he needed to get off the phone anyway, and that he would talk to her sometime the next day. "Okay, goodnight."

Between that point and that Saturday afternoon, time seemed to drag. She decided she had to come up with a good way to convince her mother to let her go to the skating rink again on Saturday night.

Whatever it was she came up with when talking to her mother that Saturday worked. She was on the phone with Jamie within a matter of seconds after talking to her mother. "Jamie, you want to go back to the rink tonight?"

"Sure," she said, enthusiastically.

And he was there that night too. He introduced the girls to his cousin, Kenny, who Brandy recognized as being a student in her English class. She and Joey decided since Kenny and Brandy shared a class together, that would be another way the two could stay in contact with each other - through letters back and forth with Kenny becoming their messenger.

And, for the first time, Brandy had someone to couple's skate with. In hind sight, the first song they skated to together was very ironic - "I don't ever want to see you again" by Uncle Sam. At that point in time, Brandy could very easily see past the lyrics to the song. And by the end of the night, the two officially became a couple.
