Skates, Stars, and a Full Moon

First Love, True Love, By Patch 01, Check out the story on Wattpad!

She had no idea what was about to hit her that night. She had no clue that her life was about to drastically change.

It was like any normal Friday night. School was out for the weekend, thank goodness, and her and Jamie had been dropped off at their usual Friday night hang-out. Every Friday night, one parent or the other would drive 45 minutes, one way, just to take the girls to the closest skating rink. Luckily, neither of their parents enjoyed actually sticking around after dropping them off, so they would drive right back up there four hours later to pick them up.

Jamie totally went for the eye candy. Brandy just wanted to skate... for the most part. She enjoyed it. It was a passion of hers. If she happened to see some eye candy along the way, that was a plus.

The girls walked up to the outside doors, waved bye to Brandy's mother, and got in behind a group of teenagers who had already begun to form a line. It was ten minutes til seven, and the party was about to start. No one was allowed in the door until seven on the dot.

"Look, it's a full moon. Watch for the weirdos, tonight," she told Jamie as they inched their way closer to the door when the clock hit seven.

"Or, it could mean anything could happen. You never know. There's a couple hotties right up front," Jamie replied.

After much pushing and shoving to get through the line, hand them their money at the front desk, and grab their freshly sprayed rental skates, the girls were in and raced right over to find a free space on the benches where they could hide their shoes and throw on their skates. In a matter of a couple seconds, Brandy had her skates on and was off. It took Jamie a little longer. She seemed to have a little more patience, or a little less enthusiasm about the hard, slick floor in front of her.

Brandy had already gotten around the floor twice before Jamie was ready to join her. And when she did join her, she was slow about it.

They circled the floor what seemed like a hundred times - Brandy dancing to each song and Jamie laughing at her with wandering eyes to others on the floor. Brandy didn't care who was watching or what song it was. And she knew the lyrics to just about every song the DJ played - Quad City DJs, Tootsee Roll, 69 Boyz, Brass Monkey, YMCA, and who could forget the only real classic skate song that stuck around for years, Baby Got Back by Sir Mix-a-Lot.

It never failed. Just as Brandy was really getting into the music, wanting more, the DJ came on announcing a couple's skate. Occasionally Brandy and Jamie would go around the floor once, and Brandy had no shame in it, but Jamie wasn't enthused about the idea of couple's skating with another girl, especially when there were numerous boys in the area whom she could try to get to snatch her up.

As Jamie waited around on their spot on the benches for someone cute and interested to come by, Brandy decided to take that moment to make her way to the concession stands. Luckily, there was only one other person at the stands waiting on a drink. Brandy skated up and came to a stop right behind them just as the employee behind the counter handed the person their drink. "Nachos and a coke please."

As she waited for the employee to gather her snack and soda, she heard a guy's voice. She turned to the left, noticing a guy sitting at the booth right up against the side of the concession stands, looking straight up at her. "The names Jo.." was all she heard him say.

"Jones?"

"No, Joey," he corrected. "What's your name?"

"Brandy."

"Can I get your number, Brandy?" She melted just looking at him. She didnt know if it was his smile, his voice, his eyes, or the simple way he looked at her, but she knew she wasn't leaving that spot until he had her number.

With a shaky hand and a nauseous feeling in the pit of her stomach, she handed the employee behind the counter the money for her snack and grabbed a napkin. A line was beginning to form behind her so she had to make it quick. She wrote her name and number down on the napkin and handed it to him. His soft, dark hand brushed against hers. For a brief moment, she swore she saw stars in his eyes. She knew from that moment on, her life would be different, or at least her Friday nights.
